Journal Entries

Journal entries are the foundation of double-entry bookkeeping. In Udala, most journal entries are created automatically - but you can create manual entries when needed.

📅 This feature launches with Udala v1.0 in January 2027. Join the waitlist for early access.

Automatic journal entries

Udala creates journal entries automatically for:

You only need manual entries for adjustments, accruals and corrections.

Creating a manual entry

  1. Go to Finance → Journal Entries → New Entry
  2. Select the posting date
  3. Add at least two lines (one debit, one credit)
  4. Ensure debits = credits before saving
  5. Submit for Finance Manager approval

⚠️ Journal entries above your configured threshold require a Finance Manager to approve before they post to the General Ledger. This prevents unauthorised adjustments.

Reversing an entry

Find the entry in the journal entries list, click Reverse. Udala creates a new entry with debits and credits swapped, dated today. Both entries remain in the audit trail.
